Israel Studies Program

SIGNAL's Israel Studies Program (ISP) promotes the study of Israel and greater Israeli society as well as Israel’s relationship with the Middle East and the world through a series of tailored courses, seminars, special lectures, and customized training. SIGNAL helps develop courses that become integrated into the affiliated Chinese universities' existing curriculum. The courses are designed to address the Chinese students' specific academic interests and enrich their overall knowledge about Israel and the region.

Impacting the Leaders of Tomorrow

Before SIGNAL, there were no institutionalized Israel Studies Programs (ISPs) in Chinese universities. Today, universities spanning across the country, from Chongqing to Beijing and Shanghai, offer ISPs. Every year, more than 2000 students at China's universities opt to take Israeli Studies courses.

Faculty Training Program

Established in 2011, SIGNAL’s semester-long Faculty Training Program (FTP) offers fellowships to faculty from universities in China who partner with SIGNAL in building Israel Studies Programs. The FTP Fellowship is fully sponsored by SIGNAL, offering international travel, tuition, and housing.

Research Paper Competition

Chinese universities cooperating with SIGNAL hold a yearly research paper competition on Israel-related topics. Overseen by faculty supervisors, Chinese students are invited to explore a diverse array of subjects for their paper, ranging from history and society to Israeli culture and politics. The project encourages Chinese students to investigate less-studied aspects of Israeli society.

Academic Seminars

SIGNAL’s Academic Seminars greatly enrich the study experience of the students enrolled in ISPs in China. For these seminars, Israeli professors travel to Chinese universities that cooperate with SINGAL to give a lecture series on their respective areas of expertise. To date, more than 800 hours of Academic Seminars given by Israeli experts have been delivered to students across China.
